ABSTRACT

In recent years, tourism industry has become a very important sector within the national economy and for this reason, the tourism industry in Romania is considered to have an important role in achieving the objectives defined by the European Commission through the Agenda 2020. The resilience of Romanian tourism to economic crises is characterized by the involvement of all social and age categories in tourist activities, the tourist promotion of Romanian destinations in international circuits, the complexity of the forms of tourism within the destinations in Romania, the expansion of forms of tourism in disadvantaged areas, etc. During the economic crisis caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, tourism represented a means of growth, development and capitalization of rural spaces for the locals because, during the restrictions imposed by the authorities, the majority of tourists chose tourist stays in rural areas due to the calm, peaceful and wonderful scenery with a lot of experiences as horse riding, climbing, hiking, etc. The geographical location of Romania underlines a variety of natural components and landscapes, which outline partly the country's tourist potential: the Romanian Carpathians, the Danube River, the Black Sea with its coastline, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, the Danube Gorge, flora and fauna of Romania and the man-made landmarks (monasteries, churches, etc.). © 2023, World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society. ABSTRACT

At present, when the mobility of the population is restricted in the spirit of conservation against COVID 19, tourism and with it the tourist destinations lose, not in image, but in the number of tourists and the benefits brought by them. Travel restrictions, natural fears related to health safety, financial limitations in the pocket of every potential tourist will lead to redirections to safe, sustainable tourist destinations located nearby, thus avoiding long-distance travel. Such a phenomenon is specific to Romania in 2020, when we are witnessing a massive return of Romanian tourists to Romania's key destinations: the Black Sea coast, Prahova Valley and ecotourism destinations, among which the destination Tara Hategului-Retezat. The "opportunity" to relaunch the Romanian tourist areas in full pandemic, forces us to a safe tourism (Safe Tourism), with similar destinations, with tourists motivated to return to sustainable destinations in Romania.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the paper is to build the way in which the tourism industry, severely affected in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, must regain the title of leader of the global economy, made possible by returning to travel habits. The arguments that will answer our concern will be presented in detail, using the inductive and deductive method. The study explores the impact of the tourism sector in 2020, the involvement of the authorities in managing the health crisis, the perception of individuals regarding the safety of traveling, but also the reasoning for which travel comes to the physical and mental health of individuals. In fact, we have managed to review an important part of the current literature on the impact generated by coronavirus on the mental and physical condition of individuals. One of the results obtained suggests that, for example, vaccinating the population, while approaching a behavior that is still responsible for the population, can lead to overcoming travel fears, implicitly, resulting in the transition to the long-awaited normalcy.
